CLASS 1

Individuals

Theme “Identity”

This class is open to all photographers wherever they live. You should submit a portfolio of three images. The judges will be looking for a coherent portfolio of three images with a strong artistic vision on the theme of “Identity”. There is no restriction on how the theme can be interpreted.


Prizes for CLASS 1:

1st Prize. The winner will receive £1000 (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners) to be used to produce a portfolio of 15 photographs on a subject to be mutually agreed for exhibition at the 2011 Festival. The winner will also receive an iPad (donated by IQ Music & Computer Solutions) and a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).


2nd Prize. A Nikon D90 camera and lens kit, and a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).


3rd Prize. A one day photography workshop given by Jean Christophe Godet (donated by Jean Christophe Godet). The winner may choose one from any of Jean Christophe’s programme of workshops and a signed book by one of this year’’s exhibitors(sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).

CLASS 2

Families

Theme “Celebration”

This class is for families living in the Bailiwick (Guernsey, Alderney Herm & Sark). Entries and the images can be about any interpretation of the Festival theme of “Celebration”. The judges will be looking for the best portfolio of up to 5 images taken by family members.


Prizes for CLASS 2:

1st Prize. The winning family will receive a Family Portrait Portfolio of 3 pictures by Nick Despres. (donated by Nick Despres). They will also receive a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).


2nd Prize. A Nikon Coolpix S4000 compact Camera and a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).


3rd Prize. A “Parent and Child” workshop from the programme at the Gallery (donated by The Gallery) and a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).

CLASS 3

Schools

Theme “Celebration”

This class is for schools in the Bailiwick to enter a portfolio of up to 6 images on the Festival theme of “Celebration”.


Prizes for CLASS 3:

1st Prize. £1000 worth of photography equipment/software for the school (to be agreed with the school) (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).


2nd Prize. A photography workshop by local photographer Tim Feak (donated by Tim Feak) for the team taking this picture and a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).


3rd Prize. A large print of the school team that took this third prize pictures to hang in the school and a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).

CLASS 4

Corporate

Theme “Celebration”

This class is for corporate offices located in the Bailiwick to enter a portfolio of up to 5 images on the Festival theme of “Celebration”.


Prizes for CLASS 4:

1st Prize. A day’s workshop in Herm given by Jean Christophe Godet for 6 people from the winning company to include the ferry and the tuition (the workshop donated by Jean Christophe Godet and the ferry by Chris Humber) and a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).


2nd Prize. A Workshop on “Night Photography” given by Jean Christophe Godet (donated by Jean Christophe Godet) for the team winning this prize and a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors.


3rd Prize. A large print of the team members and a signed book by one of this year’s exhibitors (sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners).

Entry requirements

All entries must be digital images, sized to 1400 pixels horizontal and 1050 vertical in sRGB colour and in JPEG or TIFF format on CD-R discs. Each image must be titled with the class, photographers name and title – example:- class1_j blogs_title.jpg. (NOTE separation by _ underscore, not – hyphen) Each disc must have the photographers name and class written on the disc with a marker pen. Each entry must have a completed entry form (available on the festival website) and be accompanied by a cheque for the entry fee made payable to “Guernsey Photography Festival”

CD’s must be free of viruses – any CD found to have a virus will be excluded from the competition.

CD’s will not be returned after the competition, they will be destroyed.

All entries and communications must be in the English language.

Entry Fee

Each entrant will pay an entry fee of £10, to be submitted with the completed entry form. In class 1 each individual pays £10. In classes 2, 3, and 4 the family, school or company pays £10.

Eligibility

A clear description of who may enter the competition is given, by class, above. Staff, or their immediate family, from any sponsoring company or Festival Partner organisation, or the event organisers are not eligible to enter the competition.

Important dates

Entries accepted up to 17:00 hrs. On the 22nd May 2010.

Judging panels will meet between the 22nd and 29th May 2010.

Winners and runners up will be announced at the closing event at St James on the 29th May 2010. Prizes will be presented to the class winners at this event.

Judges

The judging panel will consist of Jean Christophe Godet as Chairman (Festival Director) with John O’Neill (Guernsey Press) Karl Taylor, Nick Depress FRPS., Gavin Tradelius (Generali Worldwide)and Anna Lisa Detassis (PPF Partners).

Copyright

The winner and all entrants retain copyright of their work. By entering the competition, photographers grant the organisers a royalty-free license to use their images for the purpose of subsequent display on the organisers website or in their promotional materails. Entrants grant the organisers the right to us either name for promotion in any medium. Samples of the winners work will be released to the press for promotional purposes. Photographer’s credit will be provided with all use.
